| 2001 | Rev. Donald W. O'Brien, OMI Missionary Oblate Priest for 43 years Hollywood, FL Rev. Donald W. O'Brien, OMI, 71, died unexpectedly while on vacation in Hollywood, Florida on Monday, May 26, 2008. Born in Lynn, MA on May 31, 1936, he was the son of the late John E. and Sarah (Brophy) O'Brien. He was educated in Lynn prior to attending Boston College from 1954-56. In 1957, Fr. O'Brien entered the Missionary Oblates' Novitiate in Tewksbury, MA and made his first vows on September 8, 1958. On September 8, 1961 he professed his perpetual vows. He was ordained to the priesthood in Washington, D.C. on May 31, 1965 by Bishop Francis McSorley, OMI. Fr. O'Brien's first Oblate assignment was to Japan where he was a Missionary for two years. He returned to the United States in 1967 and was assigned to Sacred Heart Parish in Lowell, MA. In 1974 he went to Florida where he spent the next 15 years. He ministered at St. Stephen's in Miramar, FL until 1978. Following that, he was in the Diocese of Palm Beach where he served at Cardinal Newman High School then St. Edward's Parish. His last assignment in Florida was at St. George's in Ft. Lauderdale. In 1989, he returned to Sacred Heart Parish in Lowell for 5 years, followed by an assignment to Immaculate Conception Parish in Lowell where he ministered until 2000. He then resided at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury until his death. He is survived by a sister, Geraldine Pelletier of Lynn, MA. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a sister, Mary, in 1988, a brother, Robert, in 1992 and a brother, John in 2007. O'BRIEN All services and calling hours will be in the Chapel at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence, 486 Chandler Street, Tewksbury MA. Calling hours will be on Thursday, June 5, 2008 from 2 until 4 and from 7 until 9 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 6, 2008. Burial will take place in the Oblate plot on the grounds of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence. As an expression of Sympathy, donations in memory of Fr. | 2002 | Rev. J. Louis Comeau Published: October 12, 2019 Age 95, formerly of Meteghan River, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 in La Villa Acadienne, Meteghan. Born July 13, 1924, in Meteghan River, he was a son of the late Agapite "Capit" H. and Elizabeth (Melanson) Comeau. After attending the local Age 95, formerly of Meteghan River, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 in La Villa Acadienne, Meteghan. Born July 13, 1924, in Meteghan River, he was a son of the late Agapite "Capit" H. and Elizabeth (Melanson) Comeau. After attending the local school, he entered St. Anne's College in Church Point, graduating with a B.A. degree in 1946. He then studied for the priesthood at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on March 25, 1950 by Bishop Leverman. He served as assistant in the Halifax Archdiocese at Saint Mary's Basilica and Saint Lawrence, Fairview. Transferred in 1954 to the newly-formed Yarmouth diocese. He served for short periods in Kentville, Sainte-Anne-du-Ruisseau and at Saint Patrick, Digby. From there he was named pastor of Saint Alphonse and then to the neighboring parish, Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, Salmon River in Clare. He was rector at Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Yarmouth for two years. Appointed pastor of Stella Maris Parish, Meteghan, he soon was entrusted to build the present church in the center of the village. After one year as pastor of Amiraults Hill and Surette's Island, Yarmouth Co., he returned for a second and last term to Saint-Vincent-de-Paul and Hectanooga retiring in June 2000 after 50 years of active ministry and took residence in his small home in Meteghan River. On this and other occasions, he was recognized by public officials for his lifelong contributions to the Acadian culture using different tools of popular media. He was predeceased by sisters, Alda and Yvonne in infancy, Lucille; brothers, Bernard, Rev. Delbé, Ralph, Delphis, Mederic and Fred. He is survived by brother, Désiré (Blanche), Meteghan River; 30 nephews and nieces. Prayer vigil will be held Tuesday, October 15th starting at 7 p.m. in Église Sacré-Coeur, Saulnierville, where funeral will take place the following day at 11 a.m. with Rev. | 2004 | Rhéal Cormier, 64, of Cocagne and formerly Cap-Pelé passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Born in Cap-Pelé, he was the son of the late Georges and Léa (LeBlanc) Cormier. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors. He loved listening to music. He is survived by two sisters: Dora Cullen (late Robert) of Cap-Pelé and Aurella Breau (Joe) of Port Colborne, ON; six brothers: Donald (Alfreda), Yvon (Rose) and Bernard (Rita) all of Shemogue, Paul-Hubert (Roseline) of Cap-Pelé, Roméo (Alma) of Dieppe and Adrice (Karen) of London, ON; caregivers of 34 years: Alice and Donald Robichaud of Cocagne and their children: Paul and Michel (Lise), as well as many nieces and nephews. | 2005 | Rheal Joseph Hebert Rheal J. Hebert, 67, of Shediac, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. Born in East Shediac, he was the son of the late Valmore and Yvonne Hebert. Rheal was a loving father; a great lover of music. He loved to laugh and tell great stories, but most of all, he had an uncanny ability to connect with people, and in doing so, touched the lives of many. | 2006 | Richard E. Comeau, 74, of Merrimack, NH passed away on Sunday July 21st, 2019 at the Elliot Hospital after a long illness surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Lynn, MA son of the late Francis and Emily (Thibault) Comeau. Richard served our country with the United States Air Force and later worked in the Defense Industry until his retirement. Along with his parents, Richard was also pre-deceased by his sister Adele Comeau and a brother, Louis Comeau. Richard leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years Celeste (Rompa) Comeau of Merrimack, his son Jeffrey Comeau of Milford, siblings Peggy Franco of Peabody, MA, Joe Comeau and his wife Ann Weeks-Comeau of Wolfeboro, NH & Thousand Oaks, CA, Donna Maas and her husband Peter of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Sharon Chase and her husband Tom of Newburyport, MA and many wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, as well as his beloved dog Gus. | 2007 | Richard John Kampersal, 90, a lifelong resident of Holliston and son of Rein and Mildred (Kairit), died Saturday, May 26, 2018. Richard was a 1945 graduate of Holliston High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. In 1949 he married the love of his life, Elinor (Stevens) who survives him. Richard is also survived by his daughters, Cynthia Robshaw and her husband Everett, and Susan Bertolino, both of Holliston, his siblings, Donald Kampersal, George Kampersal and Dorothy Kampersal, his grandchildren, Jennifer Taylor and Jason and Justin Ferdenzi, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. | 2014 | Robert ''Robby'' Roy Joseph Ogilvie February 8, 1963 - November 28, 2014 OGILVIE, Robert Roy Joseph "Robby" - age 51, Weltons Corner, Kings Co. It is with great sadness in their hearts that the family announces his passing after a long and hard fought battle with cancer, on Friday, November 28, 2014, in Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Berwick, on February 8, 1963, he was a son of Ruth (Toole) Ogilvie-Fitch (and husband Eugene), Greenwood Square, and the late Merrill Ogilvie. Robby worked on farms all of his life and later had operated heavy equipment at Sawler Gardens, Somerset. He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed time spent with his horses. Family meant the world to Robby and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Besides his dear mother he survived by his loving wife, Stacy (Amero) Ogilvie; loving sons, Dillon and Adam Ogilvie, at home; special chosen daughter, Richelle (Shawn) Louie, Calgary, Alta.; two granddaughters; brother, Merrill (Judy) Ogilvie Jr., Weltons Corner; sister, Jane (Wendell) Rafuse, Auburn; several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, he was predeceased by brothers, Danny and Timmy Ogilvie. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Thériault, age 80, of Meteghan, passed away peacefully in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on Thursday, September 24, 2020 with his daughters by his side. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late Irenée ?Ernie? and Cecile (Maillet) Thériault. His beloved career as an engineer saw him working locally at Université Sainte-Anne then, rewardingly, for CSAP. His public-mindedness, kindness and belief in doing things well saw him serving on municipal council. In his retirement he took up curling and golfing. He would like the friends he will miss at the Clare Golf and Country Club to know that if he could be buried on any one hole, it would be the ?dastardly? fifth. He was often happiest logging a woodlot that has been in his family for seven generations. His love of the outdoors, his engineering career and his generosity found him serving on the Association Sentier Clare / Rail to Trail Association, including being President into his 80th year. He was also an avid reader and library user, devouring novels and informative non-fiction. He inspired his treasured daughters to be kind and to look at the world around them with both curiosity and love. He will always be remembered for his kind heart. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughters, Adrienne (Robbie) and Gisèle (Darryl); brother, Lawrence (Doris); sister, Louise (Serge); many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Yvonne; son, Robert. Cremation has taken place. He was previously employed by the former Hatton Printing Co. of Gardner. Mr. Adams was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner. Mr. Adams was a Korean War Army Veteran. He leaves his wife of 46 years, Dorice M. (Richard) Adams of Gardner; 2 sons, Thomas E. Adams and his wife Denise of Baldwinville, James E. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Mater Dei Parish, Nativity Catholic Church with Father Andrew Galles as Celebrant. Burial, with military honors by the United States Marine Corps, will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation, with family present, will be at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22nd at the church. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be offered in Robert?s name to Boys Town, Omaha, Nebraska. Robert was born on January 6, 1923 in Le Mars, Iowa to L. T. and Teresa (Merry) Marx. He attended East High School and Morningside College. Soon after high school he worked on the Alaskan Highway. He later joined the United States Marine Corp and served in World War II as part of the Pacific Theater, B-25 bombing crew. Before being deployed he met Alice O?Grady, while in Washington, D.C. He married the love of his life at St. Mary?s Parish in Franklin, MA on March 2, 1946. After the wedding, the couple settled in Sioux City and began a wonderful life together. Bob rejoined the military and became one of the first charter members of the Iowa National Guard 174th Battalion and served during the Korean Crisis. Bob returned to Sioux City to start a family as well as working various jobs. In 1953, he started Marx Truck Line with his brothers, Wally and Don. Over his career Bob started many successful ventures including the purchase and renovations of Southern Hills Country Club. Bob?s vision transitioned it into a family focused golf facility. With all of his success in business, family remained the priority and primary focus. Bob retired from his work life in 2000 to relax and enjoy the life he and Alice had created. Bob?s 97 years of life included overcoming tough times, adversity and hard work. Throughout all of this, family was the number one priority. Bob is survived by his beloved wife Alice of 74 years. He was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His children include Jeanne Kramer (Jake), Denise Reinking (Jeff), Grady Marx (Karla), Tim Marx (Mary), Eva Marx-Gomez (Dennis) and Amy Shea (Tim). In addition, he was a role model to his eighteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Alcine "Al" Longtime of Saugus, and Past Commodore & lifelong member of the Winthrop Yacht Club, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the Brudnick Center for Living, at age 88. Al was born in Meteghan Centre, Nova Scotia on December 11, 1931, one of 10 children of the late Bernard and Cecile (Gaudet) Robichaud. Raised in Meteghan Centre, Al settled in Saugus with wife Gracie, where they lived for over 50 years. Well known in the Lynn and Saugus area, Al was an honest, hard-working licensed Electrician and handyman for many years. A boating lover, Al served as the Commodore for the Winthrop Yacht Club, and took great pride in the yacht club while supporting his fellow members. Generous and kind, Al was always ready to help his family and friends. He served as a source of strength for his 10 brothers and sisters, and was always available to them. He will be missed. Al was the beloved husband of the late Grace D. (Braid) Robichaud, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Mr. Messier, a World War II Army veteran, was employed at Standard Pyroxoloid Corp., Leominster. | 2032 | ry Margaret (Peggy) Faron Wurtz died at home on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 after a brief illness. Born March 10, 1930 to Joseph and Leabelle (Dionne) Faron in Mapleville, Rhode Island, she spent her childhood in Rhode Island and Connecticut. Peggy graduated in 1947 from St. Clare High School in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and moved with her parents and sisters to the Tacoma, WA area in 1948. Peggy met Adam Wurtz at a dance in the Evergreen Ballroom, and the couple shared the dance floor of life for the next 60 years. They were married in St. Benedict?s Catholic Church in Spanaway, WA on September 5, 1951. Peggy not only married Adam, but the United States Air Force, and the couple were stationed in England, Spokane, Japan, and Montana before Adam retired from the military in 1966 and they moved to Yakima with their brood of 6 children. The couple raised their children in Yakima and moved to Selah in 1983. Peggy loved God and her family. She was absolute in her faith and her love and was a wonderful example to her family and anyone blessed enough to be a part of her life. She worked in retail most of her life to help support the family and to make sure the children could attend Catholic schools, but always had time for anyone in need of a hug, shoulder, or listening ear. She made living on a shoestring budget seem almost easy and could make the miracle of the loaves and fish look like child?s play. Often a group would arrive without warning and she could happily, and seemingly without effort, put together a feast from what appeared to be a nearly empty pantry and fridge. No one left her home without a delicious meal and a warm smile. Peggy?s family soon grew to include her children?s spouses and her grandchildren. She was dubbed ?Hungry Grandma? by a grandson because she asked anyone who came to her home if they were hungry and always had a child?s and grandchild?s favorite food on hand when they arrived. She made everyone feel like family and feel loved, and she did so with a sincere heart and loving hands. Peggy was devoted to Adam and lovingly cared for him during their nearly 60 years of marriage even during his difficult final months. She never complained and never lost her temper during the most trying times. Her acceptance of God?s will was a beacon for the world and God?s love was reflected in the simple things she did every day. Peggy is survived by her children, Theresa Rowe of Tumwater and Terry?s children Sean, Steve, Mike, and Summer; Mary Wurtz of Selah, and her daughter Laura; Adam Wurtz, Jr, (Bridget) of Hanover, PA and their children Adam III, Zachary, Joseph, Megan, and Jacob; Joseph Wurtz (Jean) of Yakima and their children Jason, Angie, and Ben; Robert Wurtz of Selah, and Catherine Hoppis (Jeff) of Selah and their children Spencer and Maddy. She was also delighted to claim 21 great-grandchildren. She was an executive member of the Clare Unit Canadian Cancer Society for many years, mostly services to patients, and was chosen volunteer of the year for the municipality of Clare. She was also the recipient of the Silver & Gold pins, and was very dedicated to the Lodge that Gives. Philomene was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Clare Branch No. 52, a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary which she was very proud of. She was a volunteer at our local radio station CIFA; devoted member of the Clare Seniors Club and a member of Sacred Heart Church, Saulnierville. She was predeceased by her husband Jarvis Joseph Saulnier; daughter, Patricia (Clark) Ayer; step-son, Irving (Madeline) McWhinnie; two sons, Frederick and Ronald in infancy; brothers, Frederick, Wilfred, Cecil and Donald; sisters, Mary and Cecilia; grandchildren, Elaine and Christopher; great-grandsons Mathew Verhoeven and Travis Pothier. She worked hard for her family, there was no limit to her doing what she could to ensure that everyone was clothed and fed, even if it meant her going with less. We would like to thank the personal care workers from Digby/Clare Home Support Agency who assisted with her care before moving to the La Villa Acadienne, especially Leona Thibeault, and Rachel Hurtle whom she adored. Thank you also to the staff of the Seniors' wing of the Digby General Hospital, to the entire staff of La Villa Acadienne and especially to the staff of Salon Rita who helped make her stay as comfortable as possible of the last few years. Thank you Mary Chandler for being there with Carol during Gram's final moments, your compassion will never be forgotten, it made the inevitable easier to accept. | 2047 | SAULNIER, Ryan Joseph ? age 31, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully, with family at his side, on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the QE II Health Sciences Centre (VG Site), Halifax. Ryan was a son of Ernest (Marsha) Saulnier and Joan (Andy) Surette. Although afflicted with CF, his disease certainly did not define who Ryan was. Scooty, as he was affectionately known, was an energetic and outgoing guy who loved DJ-ing under the name DJ-Xtreme. He also enjoyed volunteering with the J-Strong Foundation, the CF Foundation, Mariner?s Centre and Eastlink. He was a huge fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as of the Yarmouth Mariners, and he loved wrestling and driving around town on his scooter. Many people will remember Ryan for his smile and his positive outlook on life. Aside from his loving parents, he is survived by his brother, Keegan Williams-Surette, as well as by his maternal grandmother, Jane Surette (Ernie Muise) and his paternal grandmother, Rose Marie Saulnier; his godparents, Myrna Cottreau and Roger Saulnier, in addition to many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Anita Saulnier, as well as by his maternal grandfather, Belmont Surette and his paternal grandfather, Ernest Saulnier. | 2049 | SÉBASTIEN CHIASSON Guyon-Denis and Jeanne Bernard's fourth child, Sébastien, was born in Chebouctou (now Halifax) in 1670. As a child he moved with his family to the new Acadienne colony of Beaubassin where he helped his father and older brothers clear the land for crops. When Sébastien was about twelve years old his mother died. Guyon-Denis took the family to Québec and got remarried to a woman only a few years older than Sébastien. They returned to Beaubassin where Sébastien's new step-mother gave him four more siblings. In 1693, Sébastien (spelled Bastien in the 1693 census of Beaubassin) married Marie Blou (daughter of Jacques Blou and Marie Girouard). Their eventual family was small by Acadienne standards (Sébastien died in his early thirties) consisting of a son Jacques, and two daughters, Marie and Agnès; although later, a second (unnamed) boy appears in two censuses. On September 21st 1696, New England militia led by Benjamin Church attacked Beaubassin, burning buildings, slaughtering livestock and killing some of its inhabitants, but most fled inland and survived because the English feared the Acadiennes? marksmanship and were unwilling to chase them beyond the reach of their ships? cannons. The following year the Treaty of Ryswick ended King William?s War and restored Acadie to France, but in 1702 after only a few years of peace, a new conflict began: The War of Spanish Succession. By the 1698 census Sébastien and Marie's farm had sixty-three acres under cultivation, with 24 cattle, 12 sheep and 10 hogs, but by 1700 they were cultivating only twelve acres and the following year, just four acres. The 1701 census also reported that they had two boys and two girls. The existence of a fourth child in generally not known but this helps validate an entry in the 1703 census: The Widow Bastien, 2 boys, 2 girls. The inference is that Sébastien died between 1701 and 1703, and his widow Marie is referred to by what was perhaps his dit name: Bastien. In late June 1704, Benjamin Church, the man who led New England militia against Acadie in 1696, returned with a force of seven hundred Bostonians and Massachusetts?s natives. They sailed into Bassin-de-Minas and attacked Grand-Pré, Pisiguit and Cobequid. At Grand-Pré, Church tried to sneak up on the Acadiennes by mooring his ships behind a small wooded island and approaching the village in whale boats, but after reaching the tideline and attempting to cross the mudflats on foot his men were blocked by deep tidal channels and returned to their boats to wait for the flood tide to cover the obstructions. The delay and rising sea revealed them to the locals, who fled into the woods. His soldiers sacked the colony, killing livestock, burning houses, and breaking open the salt-marsh dikes which flooded the enclosed farmland with seawater, threatening to destroy the land?s usefulness for several years; but after Church?s men left the Acadiennes quickly repaired the aboiteaux, saving the soil from complete salt saturation and allowing them to plant crops the following year. At Beaubassin, Germain Bourgeois (son of Jacques Bourgeois) negotiated with the New Englanders and showed them a signed document giving their sworn loyalty to the English king. This seemed to satisfy Church but many of his soldiers were less disciplined and went off to pillage the area and raze the village: burning houses, farms and the church. Sébastien Chiasson's widow Marie Blou, with her family of young children, would have been there at the time and no doubt witnessed the destruction. Around 1708 Marie got remarried to François Lapierre and had six more children with him. In 1710, a fleet of English and New England ships commanded by General Francis Nicholson, sailed into Port-Royal basin carrying two thousand troops and laid siege to the fort. After a few days of bombardment Governor Subercase surrendered. Port-Royal was renamed Annapolis Royal. In 1713, the Treaty of Utrecht ended The War of Spanish Succession in Europe and its North American extension: Queen Anne?s War. France ceded Acadie and Newfoundland to England but retained the St. Lawrence valley and the islands of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, including Île Saint-Jean (Prince Edward Island) and Île Royale (Cape Breton Island). The treaty language however did not define the geographic extent of Acadie with enough detail, and France believed that a wide swatch of the mainland (the future province of New Brunswick and a portion of the future state of Maine) still belonged to them, while England held the opposite view, causing decades of conflict and skirmishes between French and British forces, finally erupting into full-scale battle during the Seven Years? War. Families began to abandon their farms in peninsular Nova Scotia and started a migration to Île Royale and later Île Saint-Jean. The area of Beaubassin began to take on the role of a frontier, with French militia retreating into New Brunswick protected by their Micmac allies, and making lightning attacks across the Chignecto Isthmus against British targets of opportunity. | 2050 | Sebastien de Montbel, Count d'Entremont of Montbel, Lord of Montpellier and of Nottage, Knight in the Order of Savoie, was born around 1490 (ed. probably around 1500, parents married in 1499). He had become heir to Charles de Montbel, Count d'Entremont, his cousin (sic. ed: his father), and married Beatrix Pacheco on 17 September 1539 at the Castle of Chambour; Beatrix Pacheco was lady-in-waiting of Queen Eleanore, wife of King François I, and daughter of the Duke of Escalona (sic. ed: actually great-granddaughter of the past Duke). From this marriage he had the following offspring: Leonor, died as an infant. Jacqueline, who followed. Sebastien was also the counsellor d'Entremont (of Emmanuel?)
