1654 Lawrence Norris Trahan, 77, of Lake Charles, LA peacefully departed this life on Thursday, April 14, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.

Norris was born on January 13, 1939 in Abbeville, LA to Duris Trahan and Elda Hebert Trahan. The family moved to Lake Charles where Norris attended and graduated from LaGrange High School in 1959. He was an exceptional stand out in the sport of football, receiving All District and All State honors.

In the Fall of 1959 Norris entered McNeese State University having a full Athletic Scholarship. It was at this time he met the love of his life, Peggy Foster. They were married on July 08, 1961 and upon his graduation in 1964 moved to New Iberia where he coached for several years. He then began employment with Shell Oil Company in offshore drilling. The job required the family to move to Metairie, Slidell and then back to Lake Charles.

After Norris retired from Shell Oil Company, he was employed by the Calcasieu Parish Sherriff Office as Court Room Security, retiring in 2012.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, shrimping and camping with his family. He was happiest when his family was gathered for Sunday cook-outs, holiday turkey frying or just making his famous gumbo.

Norris was very proud of his Cajun heritage. He loved telling his grandchildren old stories of the good old days when he was growing up in his early years. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren more than life itself. He was always so proud of them and all their accomplishments. Norris was of Catholic faith.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 55 years, Peggy Foster Trahan; son, Stuart Paul Trahan and wife Robin and son, Jerald Charles Trahan and wife Sara; daughter, Melissa Lynn Trahan; brothers, Andrus Trahan and wife Sue and George Trahan; one niece; four nephews; brother-in-law, Fred L. Foster; eleven grandchildren, Stuart Paul II, Cameron, Colton, Collin, Devyn, Eric, Slade, Kassie, Taylor, Derek and Ryan and six great grandchildren, Emma, Emily, Gavin, Liam, Jaycob and Brendan.

Norris was preceded in death by his parents, Duris and Elda Hebert Trahan; one brother, Jerald C. Trahan; sister-in-law, Pat Trahan, and his In laws, Irvin L. and Lucille Moss Foster.

His family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Southern Home Health and Harbor Hospice for their compassionate care and to Jameica Rigmaden for the past two years of her loving care.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, April 18, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Glenn Viau will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Scripture service and rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.

Etienne was born about 1623 in Balesmes (Touraine) France and died in Port-Royal, NS, Canada. He married Marie Gaudet in 1649 in Port-Royal, NS, Canada.

***********************************************

If Antoine was his father, Etienne must have been born around 1630 as Antoine was born around 1614.

Étienne Hebert came from France with his wife Marie Gaudet, according to nine depositions: one from his grandson Jean Hébert (Doc. inéd., Vol. III, p. 11), one from Pierre Trahan, husband of his granddaughter Madeleine Comeau (ibid., p. 8), one from Pierre and Madeleine?s son Pierre Trahan (ibid., pp. 110-111) and one from their nephews Sylvestre and Simon Trahan (ibid., p. 30), two from husbands of Étienne?s great-granddaughters (ibid., Vol. II, p. 182; Vol. III, p. 90), one from a great-great-grandson (ibid., Vol. III, pp. 93-94), and two from husbands of his great-great-granddaughters (ibid., pp. 45, 92-93). Seven of these depositions name his wife as Marie Gaudet; only those of the two Pierre Trahans, father and son, do not.White

"The Héberts in Acadia go back to two ancestors: Antoine and Étienne Hebert, whose birthdate is unknown because he died before thr 1671 census and who married about 1650 Marie Gaudet. the dispensation for the third degree of kindred granted upon the marriage of Antoine's grandson Jean Hebert to Étienne's granddaughter Marguerite Leprince, and another for the fourth degree granted upon the marriage of Étienne's great-grandson Pierre Forest to Antoine's great-granddaughter Marguerite Hebert proved that Antoine and Étienne were brothers." (P. Gallant)

"A worthy article that appeared in our periodical (Memoires, vol. VI, p. 393) thought it possible to establish--at least it claimed--that the Hebert brothers were the sons of Jacques Hebert and Marie Juneau of La Haye-Descartes in Touraine.

"Here then in brief is its argument: an immigrant named Jacques Hebert, son of Jacques and Marie Juneau, from La Haye in Touraine, parish of Balesne, made a contract at Québec ... to marry Francoise Chevalier. This contract was witnessed by Louis Hebert's daughter Marie-Guillemette Hebert.

"Now, before settling at Québec this same Louis Hebert stayed for a while at Port-Royal, where the two Acadia Hebert brothers would live thirty years later.

"Thus the immigrant Jacques Hebert in Québec was the brother of the Acadian Héberts.

"One must confess that the connection between these premises is tenuous. and even more tenuous than one might think.

"The immigrant Jacques Hebert was not an Hebert at all, but an Habert, as a correct reading of his marriage contract proves. and if Guillemette Hebert, widow of Guillaume Couillard, appeared on this occasion, it was because the intended bride was her servant. the Acadian Héberts with their different family name have nothing in common with Jacques Habert." 1683 Louis ALLAIN 44; Marguerite BOURG (wife) 31; Pierre 7; Marie 5; 10 cattle, 12 sheep, 8 hogs, 5 1/2 arpents, 31 fruit trees, 4 guns 1 servant,. [1698 census]

Louis first appears in the New World in 1685. He bought a share in the ship Endeavor. He bought 100 acres of land in present-day Wells, Maine - which included a house and a 1/3 share in a mill on the property. Two years later, we find him in a contract with Emmanuel LEBORGNE to build and operate a mill in Port Royal. Besides being a merchant, it seems Louis also had blacksmithing skills. He married Marugerite BOURG and they had two children, Pierre and Marie.

We know they lived in Belair (near Port Royal) for a while. The creek running through the property is still called Allain's Creek/River (located just to the south of Annapolis Royal). Louis built a sawmill, grain mill, and a store on the property. He also accumulated several ships for trading. The dock on his property could accomodate two good-sized schooners. His knowledge of the English language enabled him to trade well with the English. When Acadians and French were taken prisoner to Boston, Louis was asked to serve as an intermediary in talks. When one of his partners, Jean-Baptiste Naquin, passed away in 1706, he bought his land (located further down the river).

We find Louis in the records soon after the English captured Port Royal in 1710. The governor put Louis and his son in irons in a dungeon. He charged that they were encouraging desertion among the troops.

When he passed away, he left his wealth to his daughter Marie and her husband Nicolas GAUTHIER. Nicolas continued his father-in-law's successful business. When the land was taken from Nicolas for disloyalty in 1745, it was granted to a John Easson ... an Englishman serving in Port Royal ... provided that he keep up the mill (that Louis had built).

Louis' son Pierre moved to Grand Pre and married Marguerite LEBLANC. Pierre was hurt aboard ship on the way to France and died in Brest around 1744. Of his thirteen children, there were five boys.
- Benjamin married Marie-Rose BUJOLD. They moved to Carleton.
- Jean-Baptiste married Marguerite CORMIER. They were married in Becancour, moved to St-Denis-sur-Richelieu in the mid 1770s, and later moved to Saint-Ours.
- Joseph-Antoine died at age 16 in Grand Pre.
- Louis married Anne LEGER. They lived at Petitcodiac, escaped to Miramachi to avoid deportation, and ended up at Bouctouche.
- Pierre married Catherine HEBERT. They were deported in 1755 to Maryland. In 1767, they sailed to Louisiana and settled at St. Gabriel.
