419 Emma's father was John Smith HARDING (1858-1950) and her mother was Elizabeth HAMILTON (1857-1889). Emma's father abandoned the family after Elizabeth's death and Emma was raised by Harris Hardy Gavel (1850-1932) and Ruth Hannah Hamilton (1858-1933). (I believe Hannah was a cousin to Elizabeth.) Emma did use the surname Gavel, but it was actually HARDING.

Emma married Frederick Archibald Sweeney (1865-1951) in 1901

421 English Royalty. He is remembered as the Prince Consort of his cousin, Queen Victoria of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, whom he married on February 10, 1840 at the Chapel Royal, Saint James Palace, in London, England. of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince Albert (I14374)

422 English Royalty. The Duchess of Kent and Strathearn, she was the mother of Queen Victoria. Born Marie Luise Victoire, Princess of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, she was the daughter of Prince Francis Frederick of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and Countess Auguste of Ebersdorf and Lobenstein. She married Emich Karl of Leiningen, widower of her aunt, on December 21, 1803. They had two children, Karl and Feodora. After her husband's death, Victoria was urged by her family to marry Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, who was being forced to abandon his long-time mistress in order to obtain an official allowance and provide heirs. They were married at Coburg on May 29, 1818 and again at Kew Palace on July 11. The next year, their only child Alexandrina Victoria was born. The duke died in 1820, and the dowager duchess devoted herself to raising her daughter, who was now the heir to the British throne. Victoria relied heavily on John Conroy, her financial advisor, but his methods and treatment of her earned him many enemies, including the reigning King William IV. When her daughter became queen at the age of 18, Victoria acted as regent for a short time, but her self-serving methods made her quite unpopular with the queen's household. The dowager duchess died at Windsor Castle at the age of 75, and was buried at St. George's Chapel before being moved to the special mausoleum built just for her by Victoria and Albert.

Joseph Bastarache. We know neither the date of his birth nor that of his death. During the American War of Independence, he He became a soldier, enrolling in the company of the French who served in 1776 with Captain Isaiah Boudrot, under the command of Colonel Jonathan Eddy. As mentioned above, he was one of the founders of Bouctouche. Around 1778, he married Marie-Madeleine Girouard, daughter of Joseph Girouard dit Bistet and Jeanne Belliveau, who gave her eight daughters and four sons, including Pierre

Jean Bastarache (Joannis Basterretche), known as the Basque, was born around 1658. He settled in Port-Royal, on land on the south shore of the Dauphin River (now the Annapolis River), near the earthly Paradise (now Paradise). His name appears in the Acadian documents from the 1686 census, where he has already been married for about two years to Huguette Vincent, daughter of Pierre Vincent and Anne Gaudet. In 1714, the year after the definitive surrender of Acadia to Great Britain, Jean Bastarache was among the Acadian inhabitants who embarked on the ship of King Mary Joseph to pass to Île Royale. But if he was gone, it wasn't long before he turned around. Jean Bastarache died in Port-Royal on September 5, 1733, aged seventy-five years. He was the father of five children, the youngest of whom was -

Pierre Bastarache, who was born in Port-Royal on July 18, 1702. According to Placid Gaudet, Pierre inherited the paternal dwelling together with his brother Jean. He married, in Port-Royal, on January 19, 1724, Marguerite Forest, daughter of René Forest and Françoise Dugas. Pierre Bastarache died in Port-Royal on May 7, 1751, leaving several girls and three boys whose eldest was his namesake,

Pierre Bastarache, who was born in Port-Royal on November 21, 1724. He flew to Port-Royal on January 26, 1750, with Anne Gaudet, daughter of Jean Gaudet and Madeleine Brun. Around 1752, he emigrated from Port-Royal to the Isthmus of Chignecto. It was among the refugees who were recorded in Tintamarre during the winter of 1754-1755. Taken under arms with his brother Michel during the fall of Fort Beauséjour in June 1755, he was deported without his family to South Carolina. In the fall of 1756, however, the Bastarache brothers returned to Acadia with twelve other Acadians ascending from the interior of the continent. Having therefore joined their wives and children, they could not long evade the English, but again became their prisoners at Fort Cumberland (formerly Beauséjour). Some time after the Treaty of Paris in 1763, they went to settle in the French Village (now Coverdale) and then on the West Bank of the Memramcook River (now Rockland). Around 1787, Pierre and Michel sold their sites to the Acadians who came from the Saint John River. Michel emigrated to Tracadie, New Brunswick, where his many descendants now bear the Basque name. Subsequently, Pierre went to find his sons Joseph and Isidore in Bouctouche, where they had been among the first settlers. He died in Bouctouche on March 21, 1796. He seems to have had six children, including -

431 Fabien Richard was the son of Edmond Richard and Caroline Courville. Fabien's birth record shows him with his mother's maiden name of Courville with only his mother's name mentioned.
"COURVILLE, Fabien (Caroline) b. 27 March 1875 (VP Ch.: v. 2, p. 203)"

It appears this is because his parents weren't wed until 8 February 1886.(Eunice Ch.:v.2, p.57)(Opel.Ct.Hse.: Mar.#13974). His sister Marie Pauline was also entered as a Courville, while other siblings born before 1886 were entered as if the parents were married.

Fabien wed Alix Doguet on 21 Feb. 1898.(Eunice Ch.: v.2, p.324) It is this record that provides both parents names.

Fabian died 3 November 1965 at Moosa Memorial Hospital in Eunice following an illness of two weeks. His obituary (Opelousas's "Daily World" 4 Nov. 1965, p.8 and
"Lake Charles American-Press" 4 Nov. 1965, p.2) lists his survivor's as his widow, the former Alice Dogas; three sons: Clancey, Enos and Joe Richard, all of Basile; five daughters, Mrs. Victoria Richard, Mrs. Alexie Bellon, Mrs. Israel Fruge, and Mrs. Evy Vidrine, all of Basile, and Mrs. Aten Fruge of Oberlin; 40 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

434 Father of Queen Mary. Francis was relatively poor, which made him an unpopular choice for European princesses. He eventually married upwards into a richer family to Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge (a.k.a. Fat Mary), a granddaughter of King George III, as she too had trouble finding a suitable husband due to her unattractivness. Despite their modest incomes, the Tecks built up large debts and fled to Europe in 1883. They returned two years later and their daughter, Princess "May", was engaged to Prince Albert, Duke of Clarence. He died a few weeks later but she then married Albert's brother, the Duke of York (later George V) and their income improved. Francis died at Richmond Lodge, Surrey in 1900, but it alleged that he may have died in a Viennese brothel and his body brought home secretly to avoid public embarrasment. Von Würtemberg, Prince Franz Paul Karl Ludwig Alexander Francis Paul Charles Louis Alexander Duke of Teck (I14370)
