  • Notes
    • Saulnier, Rosalind (Rose and affectionately known as Gram to most), 101. It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother Gram at her home in Villa Acadienne, Meteghan on Feb 7 with her daughter Carol by her side.

Born on October 5, 1918 to the late Edward and Estelle (Surette) Thibodeau, Yarmouth. She was predeceased by her husband Jarvis Joseph Saulnier; daughter, Patricia (Clark) Ayer; step-son, Irving (Madeline) McWhinnie; two sons, Frederick and Ronald in infancy; brothers, Frederick, Wilfred, Cecil and Donald; sisters, Mary and Cecilia; grandchildren, Elaine and Christopher; great-grandsons Mathew Verhoeven and Travis Pothier. She is survived by her sons, Robert, Georgetown, ON, Jarvis (Gloria), Lefroy, ON, Harold (Rose), Ingersoll, ON, Wilfred (Ethel), Deep Brook, Raymond, Truro, and daughters Claudine (the late Frank Muise), Yarmouth and Carol (Gary) Landry, St. Bernard. Rosalind was dearly loved by her children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren whom she also loved dearly.

Rosalind (Gram) was a devoted wife and mother not only to her own children but to any kids in the neighborhood, proven many times over by those who always made our home the second if not the first place they visited while on vacation; she was a second mom to many. She was adored by all who knew her during her 101 years; never rich but abundantly wealthy in love. She worked hard for her family, there was no limit to her doing what she could to ensure that everyone was clothed and fed, even if it meant her going with less.

We would like to thank the personal care workers from Digby/Clare Home Support Agency who assisted with her care before moving to the La Villa Acadienne, especially Leona Thibeault, and Rachel Hurtle whom she adored. Thank you also to the staff of the Seniors' wing of the Digby General Hospital, to the entire staff of La Villa Acadienne and especially to the staff of Salon Rita who helped make her stay as comfortable as possible of the last few years. Thank you Mary Chandler for being there with Carol during Gram's final moments, your compassion will never be forgotten, it made the inevitable easier to accept. Thank-you to doctors, Lionel d'Entremont, Jean-Luc Dugas, Alain Blinn and especially Dr Julie Chandler for their medical care over the years. Thank you also to Annette Comeau and Lennie Romain of the Ministry of Care and Companionship for their visits while she was in palliative care. A special thank-you also to family and friends who took the time to visit during Gram's time at La Villa Acadienne, Salon Rita, she always enjoyed the visits no matter the length.

Visitation will take place Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Jayne's Funeral Home, Weymouth North. Funeral service will take place Friday at 11:30am in St. Joseph Parish Church in Weymouth with burial at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Payson Rd followed by a reception at Saint Bernard Fire Hall, St Bernard. Donations in her memory may be made to La Villa Acadienne, Meteghan or to a charity of your choice. Share a memory or leave a condolence at www.jaynesweymouth.com
