  • Notes
    • Lawrence Norris Trahan, 77, of Lake Charles, LA peacefully departed this life on Thursday, April 14, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.

Norris was born on January 13, 1939 in Abbeville, LA to Duris Trahan and Elda Hebert Trahan. The family moved to Lake Charles where Norris attended and graduated from LaGrange High School in 1959. He was an exceptional stand out in the sport of football, receiving All District and All State honors.

In the Fall of 1959 Norris entered McNeese State University having a full Athletic Scholarship. It was at this time he met the love of his life, Peggy Foster. They were married on July 08, 1961 and upon his graduation in 1964 moved to New Iberia where he coached for several years. He then began employment with Shell Oil Company in offshore drilling. The job required the family to move to Metairie, Slidell and then back to Lake Charles.

After Norris retired from Shell Oil Company, he was employed by the Calcasieu Parish Sherriff Office as Court Room Security, retiring in 2012.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, shrimping and camping with his family. He was happiest when his family was gathered for Sunday cook-outs, holiday turkey frying or just making his famous gumbo.

Norris was very proud of his Cajun heritage. He loved telling his grandchildren old stories of the good old days when he was growing up in his early years. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren more than life itself. He was always so proud of them and all their accomplishments. Norris was of Catholic faith.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 55 years, Peggy Foster Trahan; son, Stuart Paul Trahan and wife Robin and son, Jerald Charles Trahan and wife Sara; daughter, Melissa Lynn Trahan; brothers, Andrus Trahan and wife Sue and George Trahan; one niece; four nephews; brother-in-law, Fred L. Foster; eleven grandchildren, Stuart Paul II, Cameron, Colton, Collin, Devyn, Eric, Slade, Kassie, Taylor, Derek and Ryan and six great grandchildren, Emma, Emily, Gavin, Liam, Jaycob and Brendan.

Norris was preceded in death by his parents, Duris and Elda Hebert Trahan; one brother, Jerald C. Trahan; sister-in-law, Pat Trahan, and his In laws, Irvin L. and Lucille Moss Foster.

His family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Southern Home Health and Harbor Hospice for their compassionate care and to Jameica Rigmaden for the past two years of her loving care.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, April 18, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Glenn Viau will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Scripture service and rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
