Emma's father abandoned the family after Elizabeth's death and Emma was raised by Harris Hardy Gavel (1850-1932) and Ruth Hannah Hamilton (1858-1933). (I believe Hannah was a cousin to Elizabeth.) Emma did use the surname Gavel, but it was actually HARDING. Emma married Frederick Archibald Sweeney (1865-1951) in 1901
