- PEABODY ? Robert A. Gaudette, 90, of Peabody, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 of natural causes at the Radius Health Care Center in Danvers. He was the loving husband of the late Rita (McCarthy) Gaudette.
He was born in Manchester, N.H. on May 1, 1919, the son of the late John and Margaret (Perry) Gaudet and had resided most of his life in Peabody. He was a graduate of Peabody High School. Bob entered the U.S. Army in January of 1942 during World War II and served overseas in Central Europe and the Rhineland with the 6th armored division artillery prior to his discharge in October of 1945.
Following his discharge, he began working at the United Shoe Machine Corp in Beverly where he was employed for 38 years prior to his retirement in 1980. He had been a member of the Second Corps Cadets of Salem and was a very active and long time member with the Yankee Division Veterans Association where he served as a past national Commander and held various offices with the YD VA.
Bob enjoyed doing gardening around his house and lending a helping hand to his neighbors.
He and his wife had wintered in Port Orange, Fla. for many years and had been a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks in Port Orange. He also enjoyed playing cards and being with his family.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Jean Gaudette of Amesbury and Michael and Sheila Gaudette of Salem; three daughters and a son-in-law, Maryann Gaudette of Peabody, Maureen and her husband Roger Lemay, and Rita Corey, wife of the late Paul Corey all of Manchester, N.H.; a son-in-law, Kenneth Harvey of Swampscott; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Donald Gray of Salem, N.H., 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Calder of Topsfield, Howard McCarthy of Manchester, N.H., Theresa McCarthy of Peabody and Rachel Gaudet of Beverly, and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Margaret Harvey and Diane Gaudette and the brother of the late Clarence, Wilfred, John and Richard Gaudet and Barbara Winskowitz.
ARRANGEMENTS: A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass in St. Ann's Church, Lynn St., Peabody, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
