      Church Point, La. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 18, 2010 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard, La. for Newbon James "Red" Duplechien,72, of Church Point, La. Mr. Duplechien, a native of Lawtell, La., a long-time resident of Port Sulphur, La. and currently living in Church Point, died at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Lafayette General Medical Center; Lafayette, La. Father Wayne Duet, pastor of St. Edward Church, will conduct the services with burial following in Monsignor Bienvenu Cemetery on Highway 35 north of Church Point.

      Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Ann (Miller) Duplechien of Church Point; two sons, Gerald Duplechien and wife Arla of Prairieville, La. And Keith Duplechien and wife Chrisanna of Morgan City, La.; two daughters, Pamela Alexis and husband Douglas of Port Sulphur and Melissa Newman of Church Point; a brother, Hubert Duplechien of Lawtell; two sisters, Theresa Velma Darbonne and Ethel Soileau of Lafayette; fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orellien and Agnes (Richard) Duplechien and a brother, Kermit John Duplechien.

      The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Friday, December 17 and continue from 8:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday by Deacon Bryne Winn.

      Mr. Duplechien was employed by Freeport Sulphur Company in Port Sulphur, retiring after twenty-five years of service. A U.S. Army veteran whose service included the "Cuban Missile Crisis", Mr. Duplechien will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony before departing the funeral home on Saturday.
