- elissa Ann Pike, 51, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 4, 2011 at the home of her brother and sister-in-law in Hubbardston after a long bout with pancreatic cancer.
Melissa is survived by her son, Matthew Pike of Worcester; her father, Robert Pike of CA; three brothers, Rob Pike and his wife Terri of CA, Jim Pike and his wife Kelly of OH and John Pike and his wife Jean of Hubbardston; nephews and nieces and her faithful canine companion, Rocky. She was born in Meriden, CT, the daughter of the late Ann (Pentland) Pike and lived much of her life in the Worcester area.
She received a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from the SUNY-Brockport and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College. She worked in the early child care business and was most recently the Director of the Elm Park Center for Early Childhood Education. She also worked at UMass Memorial and the Red Cross. She was an avid and expert scrabble player who founded the Worcester Scrabble Club. Melissa was a loving and caring mother, daughter, sister and a compassionate friend.
A memorial service for Melissa will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 8th in All Saints Church, 10 Irving Street, Worcester. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Matthew J. Pike Educational Fund, C/O TD Bank, 295 Park Ave., Worcester, MA 01609. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
