(Griffin) O?Grady, 89

FRANKLIN - Margaret Mary (Griffin) O?Grady, 89, formerly of Franklin, died May 27, 2013 in the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester. She was the wife of the late Thomas L. O?Grady.

Born in Charlestown, May 25, 1924, the daughter of the late William and Veronica (Tobin) Griffin, Mrs. O?Grady was raised in Charlestown and Medfield and had lived in Franklin since 1945. Mrs. O?Grady was a graduate of Medfield High School. She received her nursing education while in the Navy. An LPN, she had worked at the former Pondville Hospital in Norfolk for many years and following that had worked at the Pond Home in Wrentham. Mrs. O?Grady was always helping her neighbors and friends with her nursing skills.

She had been the past president of FISH, a member of the Franklin Red Cross, the Catholic Women?s? Club and had been an active member of St. Mary?s Church. She enjoyed traveling, attending events at the Senior Center and entertaining at her home. Mrs. O?Grady served in the Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of Hospital Apprentice 2nd class.

She is survived by her children, Thomas O?Grady, Jr. of Hudson, New Hampshire, Maureen Hippert of Leicester and John O?Grady of Rochester. She was the sister of the late Bill Griffin, Vera O?Grady, Helen Woods and Marie Bowles. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, May 30 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St., Franklin at 11:15 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary?s Church at noon. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 6-8.

GRIFFIN, William J. Died on October 11, 2012, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 3, 1929 to Veronica and William Griffin in Medfield, MA. Graduated from Medfield High School and MA State Police Academy. Joined the U.S. Navy in 1948, served as a Medical Corpsman on the U.S. Midway during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he worked for General Motors, Framingham, MA, as Material Coordinator. Joined the Medfield Police Department in 1958 until moving to Palm Beach County, FL and joined the Riviera Beach Police Department in 1968. He worked his way up the ranks to Captain, Chief of Detective Division, along the way receiving many awards, including Policeman of the Year. He retired in 1988 at 58 years old, moved to Jensen Beach, St. Lucie County and soon he decided retirement was not for him so he joined the St. Lucie Sheriff's Office and worked as a Bailiff at the Courthouse in Ft. Pierce for seven years. On December 19, 1954, Bill met his wife Joan (Barker) and they were married on Nov. 19, 1955, at Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth, MA. Built their home in Medfield and brought up five beautiful children, before moving to Florida. Bill attends Mass at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, and is a volunteer for the Project Mother Teresa. He is a member of the Korean War Veterans, Chapter 106; Fraternal Order of Police, Treasure Coast Lodge #41; and for 15 years was a member of the PGA Country Club where he enjoyed a good game of golf with his many friends. Bill leaves behind his loving Bride of 57 years, five children, Diane (Gary) Muller, Patty (Rick) Dent, Sheila Griffin, William Griffin, Jr. (Paige), and Charles Griffin, seven grandchildren, Brian, Melissa, and Mark Muller, Kelly and Katie Dent, William Griffin III "Joey", and Sara Griffin, along with his sister, Margaret O'Grady in MA, and many nieces and nephews. He will always be remembered for his Irish wit and service to others by all his friends and neighbors. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm, Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Forest Hills-Byrd, Young & Prill Funeral Home in PORT ST. LUCIE, FL. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 pm, Thursday, October 18, 2012, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in St. Lucie West, FL. Inurnment will take place at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice or St. Bernadette Catholic Church Building Fund.

Thomas J. Griffin, 65, of 100 W. Buffalo St., died Sunday, Dec. 29, 1985, at home. He was born in Ithaca, a son of the late Thomas and Catherine Breen Griffin. He was the widower of Helen Bernardi Griffin, who died in 1965.

Mr. Griffin Was the Commissioner of Jurors for Tompkins County for the past 15 years. He had retired from Irv Lewis in 1983 after 20 years of services. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the B.P.O.E. 636 and the Eagles.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. and Nancy Griffin of Syracuse; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Glenn Anderson of Chelmsford, Mass.; five grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Beatrice M. Griffin of Ithaca and a cousin. Katherine Breen of Ithaca.

After a brief battle with lung cancer, Ruth passed away peacefully in her home. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, daughter of Eleanor & John McHugh, she joins her son Terry, and four of her seven siblings in heaven.
Having lived a very full life, Ruth is best known for being a quick-witted, strong, and patient mother of nine children, a consistent and giving parishioner and choir member at Queen of Apostles Church, a steadfast community volunteer, an excellent bridge player, a fierce grammarian, and a loyal friend to many.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Thomas (Tom) Powers, and children Jack, Kevin (Lisa), Tim, Brian (Kim), Neil (Karol), Maureen, Shannon London (Bill), & Megan. She was a loving grandmother of 13, and great-grandmother of three.
Her memorial service is Sat., Dec. 12, at 12pm at Queen of Apostles; 4911 Moorpark Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to American Cancer Society in Ruth's memory. Mary Clare M. Sanders, 83, of Punta Gorda, FL died Sept 8, 2009. She was born January 7, 1926 in Chicago, IL to John and Eleanor McHugh. In the 1940's, she was one of the original Quiz Kids on a national radio show that originated in Chicago. It featured gifted youngsters in a quiz show format. When the Quiz Kids traveled to Washington, DC, they were greeted and entertained by Eleanor Roosevelt in the East Room of the White House. They were also hosted by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia on a visit to New York City. Mary Clare received her Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, from DePaul University in 1947. She worked as an executive secretary and administrative assistant at Time-Life publications and at the Cadillac Division of General Motors. She moved with her family to Punta Gorda from the Chicago area in Dec 1985 and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was also a former member of the Punta Gorda Boat Club. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, LeRoy D. Sanders a longtime reader and Eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart and her beloved son John E. Sanders and his wife Evelyn; her sisters, Joan Bernard G. Roer, Ruth John T. Powers and Janet McHugh; brothers, John C. and William F. McHugh. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, Sept 16, 2009 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
