    FITCHBURG -- Hector J. "Shorty" Gaudet, 86, formerly of St. Joseph Avenue, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Health Alliance - Leominster Hospital.

    Mr. Gaudet was born in Fitchburg, April 10, 1927, a son of Albert and Eva (Leger) Gaudet, and was a lifelong resident of Fitchburg.

    He had worked at Ford Parts Rebuilders Company, Fallulah Paper and Vogue Wallpaper Company, all in Fitchburg.

    During WWII, Mr. Gaudet served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post #429, AMVETS, and the Franco-American Club.

    An accomplished guitarist, Mr. Gaudet played in several area bands under the pseudonym "Shorty Strad". He was an original member of the "Bob Bell and the Sundowners", was part of the house band at the Lone Star Ranch in Reeds Ferry, NH for three years, and appeared regularly at the Fitchburg American Legion Post, Richard's Cafe in Gardner and in Sunday Jamborees at the Franco American Club. In 2011, the Sundowners were presented with The Hall of Fame Award by the Massachusetts Country Music Award Association.

    He leaves his longtime companion, Joan Caron of Fitchburg; two brothers and their wives, Roger and Connie Gaudet and Norman and Jeanette Gaudet, both of Fitchburg; a brother-in law and sister-in law, Antoinette Gaudet and Joseph Martino, both of Florida; his stepdaughter, Lori Nash and her husband, Bruce of Lunenburg; three grandchildren, Bruce Nash and his wife, Carrie, Kristine Nash, Stacie Nash; three great-grandchildren, Kailey Gendron, Madison Leigh Nash, Mason Nash; and several nieces and nephews

    He was the brother of the late Emile Gaudet, Bertha Martino, and Stella Bastarache.

    HOLIDAY, Fla. -- Emile J. Gaudet, 81, of 3824 Elmwood Drive, formerly of 75 Milk St., Fitchburg, died Sunday, May 13, at the Community Hospital, New Port Richey, Fla. after a brief illness.
    Mr. Gaudet was born in Fitchburg on June 6, 1925, a son of Albert and Eva (Leger) Gaudet, and resided many years in Fitchburg before moving to Florida 17 years ago.

    He worked 20 years as a machinist at the former American Can Company in Fitchburg, retiring in 1988. Prior to that he worked for the ITT Wire Company in Clinton.

    He was a communicant of St. Joseph?s Church in Fitchburg and St. Ignatius Church in Tarpon Springs, Fla. He had been a member of the Franco American Club in Fitchburg and for many years and square danced with the ?Two Hearts as One? dance club in Gardner as well as the ?Montachusett Twirlers? in Leominster.

    He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Antoinette ?Toni? (Denomme) Gaudet; four sons, Robert E. Gaudet, Gerard A. Gaudet and Steven A. Gaudet, all of Fitchburg, and Ronald R. Gaudet of Templeton; three brothers, Hector ?Shorty? Gaudet, Norman Gaudet and Roger Gaudet, all of Fitchburg; and a sister, Stella Bastarache of Westminster. He leaves four grandchildren, Bryan Gaudet, Shawn Clapper, Ronald Clapper and Melissa McCully; and four great-grandchildren.

    He was the brother of the late Bertha Martino of Winter Park, Fla.

    GAUDET -- A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph?s Church, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Joseph?s Cemetery.     Stella M. Bastarache of Westminster; 85 WESTMINSTER Stella M. (Gaudet) Bastarache, 85, formerly of South Shore Road died Saturday, March 28 at the Life Care Center of Leominster. Mrs. Bastarache was born in Fitchburg on February 11, 1924 a daughter of the late Albert and Eva (Leger) Gaudet and had resided in Westminster for thirty nine years. Mrs. Bastarache was the wife of the late J.P. Roger Bastarache who died in April 2005. She is survived by a son: Gary R. Bastarache of Athol, one daughter: Anne E. Bastarache of Westminster, three brothers: Roger Gaudet, Hector,Shorty, Gaudet, Norman Gaudet all of Fitchburg, two grandchildren; Crystal Stone and Craig Bastarache; and one great grandson, Tyler Stone. Mrs. Bastarache was the sister of the late Emile Gaudet and Bertha Martino. Mrs. Bastarache was formerly employed for 42 years at the former Fitchburg Yarn, she then worked at Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg retiring in 1987. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fitchburg. Mr. and Mrs. Basatarache were avid square dancers. BASTARACHE A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 3rd, 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland St. Fitchburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
