Notes - Olivier Thibodeau was among the group of eight Acadian heads of families who entered into a contract in New Orleans on 4 Apr 1765 with Captain Bernard Dauterive, for the purpose of raising cattle in partnership, the initial herd to be supplied by Dauterive.
He is found on the 1774 census of the Attakapas Post.
"There being no Commandant or Notary in the Post, have previously contracted an accord of mutual interest with the dec. Fr. Valentin, Cure of Opelousas; now wishing to conform to "la loy des Prince qui, par son authorite annulle tout acte de Mariage ou de Testament fait par un Pretre et Cure" the law of Princes which by its authority annuls all acts of marraige and Testament performed by a Priest and Pastor. At the time of their marriage they had between them both three children with no right to inherit. Now wish to make a marriage contract and Last Will and wish that they "pourront laisser sans qu'aucun du premier lit comme le second" include those of the first marriage literally "first bed" as those of the second m. contract dated: 30 Sept. 1786 Olivier Thibodeau Wits: Jacques, Jenne, Neuville; Alexandre Chevalier Declouet. Olivier Thibodeaux settled on land above that of his cousin, Amand. He received a Spanish grant of 6 arpents front by 40 arpents depth on both sides of Bayou Teche on June 20, 1771. He also obtained a grant of land in the Bayou Vermilion area on Jan 5, 1777. This land lay directly above that of his father and probably included part of the present-day Lafayette Municipal Golf Couse. [?Thibodeau from Acadia to Acadiana?, Gertrude C. Taylor, Attakapas Gazette v. 19-20 Spring/Winter 1984-1985, ]
