"Mrs. Elizabeth Wells Chase, a well known and respected woman of Hartwick, for twelve years an invalid, died at the family home Saturday shortly after noon as the result of heart trouble. Funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, private for relatives and close friends, with the Rev. M. L. Yates of Cooperstown officiating. Burial will be made in the family plot at Chase. Mrs. Chase was born at Esperance, April 6, 1858, and was the only child of Samuel M. and Almira (Soule) Wells. She was also the ninth in direct descent from William Bradford, first governor of Plymouth Colony and also John and Priscilla Alden, Thomas Rogers and others of colonial times. She was united in marriage with Chas. Chase, December 27, 1878. Surviving are the husband; eight children, Mrs. Myra Fassett, Miss M. Irene and C. Raymon, living at home, Paul N. of Cooperstown, Linn W. and Karl E. of Schenectady, Morris A. of Oneonta, Mrs. David Maples of Oneonta, and ten grandchildren, and one cousin, H. O. Branch of Hartwick. The late Mrs. Kent Jarvis of Cooperstown was a cousin. Mrs. Chase was a woman of rare personality. Her whole life was devoted to her family, and for them no sacrifice was too great, no labor too intense. During her long years of invalidism she always met her friends with a cheerful smile ..."
