Notes - The name Esbon was spelled with a Z in Rhode Island, while generally spelled with an S in Nova Scotia. Ezbon Sanford was made a Freeman of Rhode Island, 1 May 1718; served as an Ensign of the Third Company of Militia from 1723-1725; was its Lieutenant in 1726, and Captain from 1730-1735.
In 1735, Capt. Ezbon was employed by the town of Newport in building a bridge at the Point. Three years later, Mr. Ezbon Sanford was appointed by the Rhode Island General Assembly to be a member of a committee to procure materials and build a new Colony House at Newport. This committee was also to build a magazine at the fort, and procure a supply of powder and balls. Cat. Ezbon was frequently a member of the General Assembly from Newport, between 1736 and 1743.
He made his will on the 6th of August and died on the 12th of the same month, 1743.

Capt. Ezbon Sanford married Mary Woodward, daughter of Israel, Jr. and Bennet (Eddy) Woodward on the 27th of September 1716 in Newport, Rhode Island. They had 11 known children. Ezbon was a carpenter/builder and served as an Ensign/Lieutenant/Captain in the 3rd Company of Militia between 1723-1735. He is buried by his wife and father/mother-in-law.
Inscription reads:
In Memory of Ezbon Sanford Esq. who died August ye 22d 1743 in ye 50th year of his age.
