- Mary Alice ?Sue? Hebert Matt January 19, 1924 ? June 2, 2015 Mrs. Matt was a native of Morgan City. She passed away Tuesday, June 2, at 7:55 AM in her home surrounded by family. As a young teen, Mrs. Sue worked at the Opera House Theatre. She was a graduate of Morgan City High School in the early 40?s. The following 20 years of her life were spent working for Mr. Gene at the MC Clinic Pharmacy. She met the love of her life, Ira, during that time. They had a wonderful 37 years together. As a team, they started Cash-n-Carry in Patterson and Gray, Louisiana. They moved to McAllen, Texas in 1967, where they started Matt?s Cash-n-Carry Lumber Company. As the company grew, they expanded to San Benito, Texas. Mrs. Matt was an active member of the First Baptist Church, San Juan, Texas. She loved to cook, shop, and most of all-she loved her animals! She saved every stray dog that came her way. Her beloved dogs were Penny and Mitzi. The Matt?s retired and moved back home to Morgan City in 2002. Survivors include her step-daughter, Cheryl Martinez (Carlos), step grandchildren, Chelsey Perez (Ruben), Jeremy Smith (Martha), Brodrick Martinez (Laura), and Deena Martinez, 6 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren: her sister in law and best friend, Shirley Hebert Zander; and her special niece Jimmie Etta Leblanc, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Ira, her stepson Glen, her parents Valrie and Laura ?Lorena? Price Hebert, her brothers Lee (Lillian), Lloyd, Ray (Olive), Valarie, Francis ?Tick? (Gertrude); and, her sisters Elma (Ernest), Irma ?Jimmie? Hebert, and numerous nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Walter Shepherd, Constance Shepherd, Stephen ?Buster? Hebert, Mark Seibert, Francis ?Rusty? Hebert, and Gene Lester. The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice Staff and Home Instead Senior Care for providing excellent service. Her caregivers were very special people; Gail Adams, Rebecca Fromenthal, Janice Hebert Choplin, Kimberly Kennedy, Krissa Aucoin, Laura Kennedy, and all past caregivers. The family would also like to thank other family members for their services; Kim Hayes, Stephen ?Buster? Hebert, Destini Barrilleaux, and Constance Hebert Shepherd. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to Heart of Hospice 14777 Hwy 90 West Frontage Road, Franklin, Louisiana 70538.
