- GRIFFIN, William J. Died on October 11, 2012, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 3, 1929 to Veronica and William Griffin in Medfield, MA. Graduated from Medfield High School and MA State Police Academy. Joined the U.S. Navy in 1948, served as a Medical Corpsman on the U.S. Midway during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he worked for General Motors, Framingham, MA, as Material Coordinator. Joined the Medfield Police Department in 1958 until moving to Palm Beach County, FL and joined the Riviera Beach Police Department in 1968. He worked his way up the ranks to Captain, Chief of Detective Division, along the way receiving many awards, including Policeman of the Year. He retired in 1988 at 58 years old, moved to Jensen Beach, St. Lucie County and soon he decided retirement was not for him so he joined the St. Lucie Sheriff's Office and worked as a Bailiff at the Courthouse in Ft. Pierce for seven years. On December 19, 1954, Bill met his wife Joan (Barker) and they were married on Nov. 19, 1955, at Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth, MA. Built their home in Medfield and brought up five beautiful children, before moving to Florida. Bill attends Mass at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, and is a volunteer for the Project Mother Teresa. He is a member of the Korean War Veterans, Chapter 106; Fraternal Order of Police, Treasure Coast Lodge #41; and for 15 years was a member of the PGA Country Club where he enjoyed a good game of golf with his many friends. Bill leaves behind his loving Bride of 57 years, five children, Diane (Gary) Muller, Patty (Rick) Dent, Sheila Griffin, William Griffin, Jr. (Paige), and Charles Griffin, seven grandchildren, Brian, Melissa, and Mark Muller, Kelly and Katie Dent, William Griffin III "Joey", and Sara Griffin, along with his sister, Margaret O'Grady in MA, and many nieces and nephews. He will always be remembered for his Irish wit and service to others by all his friends and neighbors. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm, Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Forest Hills-Byrd, Young & Prill Funeral Home in PORT ST. LUCIE, FL. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 pm, Thursday, October 18, 2012, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in St. Lucie West, FL. Inurnment will take place at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice or St. Bernadette Catholic Church Building Fund.
