- Arthur R. 'Marty' Martorano, Jr.
Retired software engineer at Mitre
NORTH CHELMSFORD -- Arthur R. "Marty" Martorano, Jr., 83, of North Chelmsford, died Friday morning, at Town and Country Healthcare Center in Lowell, after a long illness.
He was the beloved husband of Louise M. (Farmer) Martorano with whom he had been together with for over 40 years and married to for the last 28 years.
Born in East Boston, Massachusetts December 10, 1928, the son of the late Arthur R. and the late Anna (Fortunate) Martorano, he was a graduate of Boston Latin High School in the Class of 1946.
Marty went on to graduate from Boston College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics.
A veteran of the Korean War, he proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army.
Prior to his retirement, he was a software engineer with the Mitre Corporation in Bedford for many years and also served as a Site Manager for them in Germany and California. Previously he worked for Raytheon Corporation in Bedford and System Development Corp (SDC) in Lexington.
Among his many interests, Marty enjoyed traveling with his wife.
Besides his wife who provided him with unwavering love and care throughout his illness, he is survived by a daughter, Robin Gagne and her husband, Wayne of Nashua, NH; a son, Joseph "Jay" Martorano and his wife, Gretchen of Dunstable; three grandchildren, Julia Martorano, Gabrielle Gagne, and Allison Gagne; and a special cousin, Dolly Richards and her husband, Duke of Middleboro; his in-laws, Rita Freedman of Lowell, Arthur Farmer and his wife, Fran of Chelmsford, and Richard Farmer and his wife, Diane of Simi Valley, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
MARTORANO -- Friends may call at the O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday morning at ST. MARY CHURCH in CHELMSFORD at 9 o'clock (Please meet at church). Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. E-condolences/directions at odonnellfuneralhome.com.
