- Helen O'Neill, 89, of Marshalls Creek, died on Wednesday morning, Jan. 9, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the widow of Cyril J. O'Neill, who died in 1992.
Born on Jan. 2, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Keenan) Meegan and lived in Monroe County since 1970, moving from Jersey City, N.J., where she was a longtime resident.
She was a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg and the Nifty Fifties of Pocono Heights and was a charter member of the Irish American Club of the Poconos.
Surviving are four children, Carol Kafer and her husband, Roger, of Marshalls Creek, Joseph O'Neill of Bayonne, N.J., Maureen Larson and her husband, Todd, of Seattle, Wash., and Suzanne O'Neill of California, Md.; 10 grandchildren, Timothy, Roger, David and Michelle Kafer, Matthew, Brian and Sean O'Neill, Elizabeth and Meghann Abraham and Caitlin Larson; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg, PA 18360. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, Brodhead Avenue and Ridgeway Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301, with Father Arul as celebrant. Burial will follow in Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.
The family requests that memorial remembrances be made to the American Cancer Society, RR13 Box 2138, Stroudsburg, PA 18360, or to the Bushkill Emergency Corps, Box 174, Bushkill, PA 18324.
