      Simon Tesfaye, 54, of Spencer passed away peacefully on January 3, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Tina L. Ghelli, formerly of Milford.

      For more than 25 years, Simon Tesfaye was a logistics officer for several worldwide humanitarian organizations helping refugees in Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia and in Northern Iraq. Often on the front lines of humanitarian emergencies around the globe, he did all that he could to help families who were forced to flee their homes.

      Simon was born Oct. 18, 1965 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the son of Abeba Goitom and the late Tesfaye Zerekristos.

      Simon enjoyed cooking, gardening, boating and swimming with his children.

      In addition to his wife of 25 years, Tina and his mother Abeba, he is survived by his children, Eva Rose Tesfaye, Caleb Simon Tesfaye and Quddus Lawrence Tesfaye; his siblings, Siltan, Senait, Sara, Yodit, Iyob, Mesfin, and Aida; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Lawrence and Catherine Ghelli and many nieces, nephews and cousins across the world. He was predeceased by his brother Alazar.

      A funeral Mass will be held Thursday January 9, 2020 at 11 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale, Massachusetts, USA

      Visiting hours will be Thursday January 9, 2020 from 9:00 ? 10:45 AM prior to the Mass at the church.
