Born in Memphis, he graduated from Christian Brothers High School, Christian Brothers Junior College and then obtained his BS in Engineering from the Univer­sity of Tennessee, Knoxville. He was a registered engineer in Tennessee and other states, returning to Christian Brothers College as a lay teacher for three years. He began his career at Allen and Hoshell Engineering Firm, leaving to establish the engineering firm of Campbell & Campbell with his brother, Tom Campbell. He then organized the firm of John C. Campbell & Associates, providing specialized services and expertise in construction project conception, master planning, financing, develop­ment and cost control on major projects throughout the United States. These projects included 32 acute care hospitals, 47 extended care hospitals, 22 nursing centers and 11 out­patient clinic facilities, surgery centers and physician office buildings. Mr. Campbell's firm planned, developed and managed landmark medical projects in Memphis, including the Ambulatory Care Center for the Regional Medical Center, the Fire Fighters Regional Burn Center, and the Memphis Eye and Cataract Surgery Center. The Commercial Appeal re­ported, in a cover story on Campbell in October 1979, he is viewed informally in some parts of the Mid- South as something of a miracle man in hospital development . Until his health declined, he enjoyed golf and tennis. As a young man, he was a water skier and taught Elvis Presley to slalom water ski. He was a charter member of the Liberty Bowl Festival Association and active in Memphis Cotton Carnival. His parents, Lester Campbell and Madalin Mitchell Campbell, his son, Thomas Lester Camp­bell, and one stepbrother, Tom Campbell, predeceased him. He leaves his wife of 32 years, Priscilla Chapman Campbell; one stepson, Dan Warlick; step­grandson, Carson Warlick; a daughter, Lindsey Nolen; two granddaughters, Emily and Kaylie; and three sisters, Patsy Knight, Peggy Winston ( Chuck) and Penny Dancer. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-12 noon, Wednesday, February 1 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, immediately followed by a funeral mass at Noon. Inter­ment will be in Calvary Ceme­tery.
