- TEWKSBURY -- Phyllis (Hirth) (Moore) Matthews, R.N., age 99, a resident of Tewksbury for 17 years, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 29, 2016.
She was the beloved wife of the late Frank H. Matthews.
Born in Cambridge on April 23, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Hirth and the late Ida (Wandless) Hirth.
Phyllis was raised in Newton, attended Newton schools and graduated from Newton High School in 1935.
Following high school, she attended the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her Degree in Nursing in 1939.
Prior to her retirement in 1979, she was employed as the Nursing Supervisor by the New England Baptist Hospital, where she worked for more than 20 years.
Phyllis resided in Chelmsford and Santa Maria, CA until moving to Tewksbury in 1999.
She is survived by her children, Diana Davis and her husband Galen of Scottsdale, AZ; Richard I. Moore of Walpole, Stephen P. Moore and his wife Susan of Rockland, Ronald E. Moore and his wife Mary of Braintree, and Robert A. Moore and his wife Donna of Tewksbury; her daughter-in-law, Dianne L. Moore of NH; her sister, Lorraine Ketchi of Natick; sixteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was the mother of the late Rodney B. Moore, and grandmother of the late Justin R. Moore.
MATTHEWS -- Phyllis (Hirth), R.N. Calling hours are Thursday, Nov. 3rd, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 p.m., at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Rd., Tewksbury.
