    Harris - The name is Welchand and means " son of Henry or Harry"

    Thomas Harris b. in Wales. He came with his brother William and also Roger Williams in the Ship "Lyon" as early as 1630 from England to Lynn, Mass. As a friend of Roger Williams, he was imprisioned and otherwise ill treated in Boston in 1658. He married Elizabeth. Elizabeth married 2nd Deacon William Stillson.
    Thomas and William kept the ferry at Chelsea. In 1680, Deacon Stillson testified that Thomas Harris kept the Ferry from Charlestown to Winnisinet (now Chelsea) 49 years before; and that he married Harris' widow and continued the Ferry. It is the oldest Ferry in the United States.

    Anna , born abt 1613. She was admitted to the Church July 8, 1639. Married Elias Maverick and died 7 September 1697, aged 84 years. Her Gravestone is in the Reading Cemetery.

    Notes:

    Robert Mavericke was baptiszed at Awliscombe, England 28 Dec. 1578, died at Dorchester, Mass., 3 Feb. 1635/36, being according to Winthrop " near sixty years of age." He married at Ilsington, Devon, England 28 October 1600, Mary Gye, who was living in New England as late as 9 Oct. 1666. In 1665 Col. Cartwright states that Mr. Samuel Maverick, his fellow commissioner, " hath his mother, wife, children & brothers living there in Massachusetts"
    "Memorial concerning the Massachusets," quoted in the Register, Vol. 48 Pg. 207. On 9 October 1666 Samuel Maverick, writing from Rhode Island to Secretary Sir William Morrice, says that his mother" presents her humble service." Calendar of State Papers, Colonial , America and West Indies, 1661 - 1668, pp. 414 - 415, no. 1288.

    Mary Gye emigrated to New England on the ship Mary & John. The vessel left Plymouth, Devonshire, England, March 1630 and arrived in Nantucket, Plymouth, Ma. on 3 May 1630. She and husband John had 5 children
