Jean Prejean dit LeBreton was the first Prejean to settle in Acadia (what is now Nova Scotia). He was born in France about 1651 and died on June 6, 1733 in Port Royal, Acadia. He married Andree Marguerite Savoie, daughter of Francois Savoie and Catherine LeJeune, in Port Royal.

Jean settled on the west bank of the Annapolis River about 17 miles east of Port Royal near what is now Paradise, formerly Paradise Terrestie (Earthly Paradise).

There, he and his wife raised eight sons and four daughters.

It is from Jean that most Prejean's in North America descend. All Cajun Prejean's in Louisiana descend from Jean through his grandsons - Amand and Joseph.

Although there were four Prejean brothers to migrate to Louisiana after "Le Grand Derangement" of the Acadians in 1755, only Amand and Joseph produced male heirs that propagated the Prejean name in Louisiana.

The Prejeans in Louisiana can be split into two groups - the "Southwest Louisiana Prejeans" originating from Amand Prejean in the areas of Carencro and Opelousas, and the "Bayou Lafourche Prejeans" originating from Joseph Prejean in the area surrounding Bayou Lafourche.

Jean married Andree Marguerite Savoie Abt 1683, New Brunswick, Canada. Andree (daughter of Francois Joseph Savoie and Catherine Jeanne Lejeune) was born 1667, Port Royal, Annapolis, New France; died 6 Jun 1733, Beaubassin, Acadia, New France; was buried , Garrison Graveyard, Annaplois Royal, Acnnapolis, Nova Scotia, Canada.
