"Dominique Pothier was born near Beaubassin. He married Anne Surette in Petitcodiac and then they moved to Pre-d'en-Haut, near Memramcook, where their first son was born. The family fled to Cocagne and then to Touctouche during the Deportation. In 1760 they gave themselves up to the British at Fort Cumberland (formerly Beauséjour). Dominique Pothier's name appears on the list, next to several Surettes, of prisoners at Fort Edward in 1761. Records show that five years later they were in Chezzetcook across the harbour from Halifax. In 1775 Dominique Pothier settled a land grant in Sainte-Anne-du-Ruisseau. His sons, Sylvain and Charles-Amand, took land in Wedgeport a few years later. All the Pothiers in Yarmouth County today are descendants of this family."
